BEC Annual Return

We thought we would share some statistics with you which have emerged from these returns which make for impressive reading and show that JEP is progressing well:

  • 160 BADs took place during 2022
  • 2,184 judges have passed an MCE
  • 2,078 judges have been mentored since 2017
  • 67 judges have been observed since 2017

The first Breed Specific Assessments will be taking place later this month for Border Terriers and Welsh Springer Spaniels. Further assessments are in the planning for the rest of the year for breeds which have a sufficient number of eligible candidates.

Breed Appreciation Days

We take this opportunity to remind you that all breed clubs must have had an involvement in the organisation of a Breed Appreciation Day by 31 December 2023. Please ensure that all BADs are notified to the office by using the following form to ensure the KC can give you maximum publicity via the online seminar diary and the KC Journal: Breed appreciation day - forms | Events | The Kennel Club

Once notification forms are submitted they are acknowledged and the organiser sent an email confirming the Level 1 criteria for candidates sitting the MCE.

Breed supported entry shows

Please also remind all your breed clubs of the requirement for them to support at least two General or Group Open Shows each year to be used as observation opportunities for Level 2 judges. This is a requirement under the Kennel Club C Regulations.

Please remember that we are available to answer any questions on the KC Roadshow stand at the following shows this year – Birmingham National, Scottish Kennel Club, Bath, Windsor, Leeds, Welsh Kennel Club, Darlington and LKA – and will have copies of the A5 JEP booklet which you can collect.
